Most important moment of the day

Basically every day of my adult life, I have intended to get up in the morning and exercise. That is a very discouraging fact considering that over the last several years, I have probably only exercised in the morning less than 10% of the time.

There have been days when that fact has made me feel pretty bummed.

It is even more depressing when I realize those lazy mornings turned into weeks and months and years... and suddenly I am way older and less fit than I ever dreamed was possible.

The last few days, I have actually been getting out of bed and going to the gym before work. Every time my alarm goes off, I cringe and consider hitting snooze. But I have been telling myself:

"This is the most important moment of your day. This decision defines whether you are proud of yourself or disappointed with yourself all day long."
As trivial as it sounds, getting out of bed in time to exercise really is my biggest battle of the day. If I do that, everything else is more automatic. Obviously my workouts are hard but once I am at the gym and everyone is working out, it doesn't really take much discipline to go along with it.

Simplifying my whole day's success into one simple decision --- get up or hit snooze --- has been really effective. No matter how tired I am, I can't ever justify ruining my whole day for a few more minutes in bed.

And, not to sound too dramatic, but those little daily decisions accumulate throughout your life and totally shape your whole person. So, I really do believe that moment is the most important moment of my day and life.
